Lawyers for Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar have filed an individual application to the Constitutional Court on the grounds that the detention and arrest decisions violate the right to liberty and security of the person. Lawyers Hüseyin Ersöz and Erkan Sarıtaş stated that the Istanbul-based investigation was unlawful, carried out by an unauthorized prosecutor’s office and gave the impression that it was politically motivated.
The application emphasized that the detention reviews were sloppy, the restriction of access to the file was unlawful and the conditions for arrest were not met. Ersöz explained that they asked the Constitutional Court to impose an injunction because Karalar is an elected mayor and there is a serious threat to his fundamental rights.
