The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) concluded the application made by 10 People’s Democracy Party (HADEP) executives due to their arrest and conviction based on a press statement in 2001. In the decree issued 14 years later, the European Court of Human Rights decided that Turkey has violated the right to meeting and demonstration and issued 1500 Euros of moral compensation to be paid to each applicant. The applicants’ lawyer Reyhan Yalçındağ criticised the fact that the case file was concluded 20 years after the incident and 14 years after the application date. Yalçındağ stated, “Adorno’s maxim that ‘justice delayed is justice denied,” can be said for late decrees issued by the European Court of Human Rights as well.”
