Kurdish musician and NûMedya24 writer Hakan Akay was detained at Istanbul Airport upon his return to Turkey from Europe on charges of “making organization propaganda.” Akay, who gave his statement via SEGBIS (Secure Electronic Communication System) to the Kuşadası Courthouse, learned that an investigation had been launched against him for being part of the production team of the documentary “Kurdish Revival.” After his statement, Akay was released. His lawyers stated, “The detention of a Kurdish artist on charges of propaganda contradicts the government’s rhetoric of ‘democratization.'”
