Deniz Güzel and Bülent Güneş, who were held in Bolu F Type High Security Prison, were released after many years of imprisonment.
Deniz Güzel, 53, was arrested in Bingöl in 1992 and sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) for “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state”. Although he had completed 30 years of imprisonment, his release was postponed for years by decisions of the Administration and Observation Board.
Bülent Güneş, who was arrested in 1993, was similarly denied release by decisions of the board. Both men regained their freedom after spending more than 30 years in prison.
Güzel and Güneş, who were released, were enthusiastically welcomed by the members of Marmara Association for Assistance of Families of Prisoners (MATUAY-DER) and their families in front of the prison.
