Members of the DEM Party Human Rights Investigation Commission (IHİK) brought the issue to the agenda of the Parliament, stating that the right to health of journalist Perihan Sevda Erkılınç, who is in prison with celiac disease, is being violated. Detained since May 2, 2025 in Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison, Erkılınç’s need for gluten-free nutrition is not met and she is not referred to a hospital.
MPs Nevroz Uysal Aslan, Beritan Güneş Altın and Kamuran Tanhan applied to the Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and demanded urgent medical intervention, hospitalization and an investigation against the prison administration. “Access to health in prisons is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right”
