In the case concerning the armed attack on the Izmir office of Evrensel newspaper on August 13, the sole defendant, Isa Can Biler, was released. The Izmir 42nd Criminal Court of First Instance released Biler with a ban on leaving the country and postponed the hearing until March 5. Evrensel’s lawyers requested that Biler remain in custody, citing ongoing shortcomings such as the failure to collect MOBESE recordings, the missing weapon, and the lack of investigation into the possible instigators of the attack. The prosecution requested his release, arguing that there was no risk of evidence tampering.
