A group of students who are members of the Turkish Communist Party (TİP) protested the MESEM program at the Turkey Century Vocational and Technical Education Summit in Istanbul, which was attended by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin. TİP criticized the system, arguing that working conditions dependent on employers lead to child labor deaths. Following the protest, it was announced that 17 TİP students were detained and taken to the Istanbul Police Department, and calls were made for the young people to be released.
