The acquittal verdicts in the lawsuit filed against 267 soldiers regarding the “Back to Life Operation” held in Ümraniye Prison on December 19, 2000 were upheld by appeal. 26 pages of the 28-page decree issued by the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice consisted of the names of the accused and the parties involved. The court wrote a half-page decree only, approving the local court decree without giving any justification for the approval. In the case that lasted for 15 years, lawyer Güçlü Keskin stated that the local court continued the trial for formality only and said, “The purpose of closing the case was very clear, and the appeal has upheld this attitude. The local court decree also had no basis, neither was the appeal decree.”
