The Ministry of National Education (MoNE) sent a warning letter to teachers who participated in a one-day work stoppage on January 13, claiming that they were obstructing the right to education. Eğitim-İş Union took this decision to court.
Ankara 5th Administrative Court ruled that teachers cannot be penalized for stopping work within the scope of their union rights.
Kadem Özbay, President of Eğitim-İş, said, “The Ministry of National Education’s disregard for the law has been overturned by the judiciary. This decision is a reaffirmation of the legitimacy of our union rights. We will stop work, it is our right,” he said.
