The Constitutional Court ruled that journalist Sedat Yılmaz’s 291-day detention violated his right to liberty and security of person upon MLSA’s application. The court ruled that Yılmaz’s inability to be informed about the accusations due to the restriction order imposed on the file violated his right to defense and ordered compensation. This decision changed the jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court regarding automatic restraining orders in investigations and set a precedent for similar cases. Sedat Yılmaz was previously arrested and acquitted on charges of membership in a terrorist organization.
