The Constitutional Court (AYM) denied the individual application made on the police violence during the Gezi Park protests. Lawyer Onur Cingil had applied to the Constitutional Court due to the violation of the right to organize meetings and demonstrations and that the disproportionate intervention of the police during the protests did not respect human dignity; expressing that the statements of Prime Minister of the time, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, such as “I gave the order to the police” and other similar statements also constituted a crime. The Supreme Court asserted that the allegations of right violation “openly lack foundation” and based the verdict on the lack of evidence showing whether the applicant was present at the protests and whether the applicant was injured.
