21 journalist organisations launched a common declaration in order to protest the report launched by the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA), entitled, “Turkish Limbs of International Media Organisations.” The declaration was lead by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) including organisations like PEN, IPI and CPJ. The organisations indicated a worry on “this new and dangerous increase” in profiling and tagging journalists.
The declaration further indicated that the report accuses international media organisations with making anti-government publications and broadcast, and that journalists working in these organisations are also targeted. Turkey was also reminded to hold the world record on having the most number of arrested media workers, as well as being ranked 157th among 180 countries in RSF’s 2019 World Press Freedom Index.
