The Court of Cassation’s Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin filed a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court with the claim for the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) to be shut down. After being filed against the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2008 for the last time, the political party closure case came on the agenda for the first time after 13 years. Receiving votes from millions of electors and being elected as the third greatest political party in Turkey, the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) is charged with “having connections with a terrorist organisation” and “aiming to overthrow the indivisible integrity of the state.” The indictment comments that the People’s Democratic Party “has never sided with Turkey on any national matter and has always supported the side against Turkey.” Politician ban claims were made against 687 people, including Selahattin Demirtaş, Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar, Sezai Temelli, Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
