The 13th hearing of the 200,000 lira compensation lawsuit filed by Serhat Albayrak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Turkuvaz Media Group, against academic and Evrensel newspaper writer Ceren Sözeri regarding the Evrensel newspaper was held on December 24 at the Istanbul 2nd Civil Commercial Court. While the parties did not attend the hearing, Sözeri’s lawyer Devrim Avcı and Albayrak’s lawyer İrem Poyraz were present. Albayrak claimed that Sözeri’s article titled “Who caused the AKP to lose votes?” dated April 7, 2019, damaged his commercial reputation. Sözeri’s lawyer requested that the case be dismissed, stating that the article was an assessment of the election results and did not violate his personal rights. The court decided to wait for the outcome of the appeal process at the Court of Appeals for the related case and postponed the hearing to May 13, 2026.
