The Constitutional Court ruled on the arrest of Mezopotamya Agency reporter Fırat Can Arslan due to a social media post he made in 2023. The court ruled that Arslan was arrested without sufficient evidence and that his right to liberty and security of person was violated.
Arslan had been arrested on charges of “targeting those involved in the fight against terrorism” for sharing an Official Gazette decision on the transfer of a judge and prosecutor couple in a journalist case in Diyarbakır to another city, and was acquitted after 100 days in prison.
Constitutional Court orders Arslan to pay 10,000 TL in non-pecuniary damages
