Cartoonist Doğan Pehlivan, who was detained as part of the investigation against Leman Magazine, said in his statement that his drawing was deliberately distorted. Pehlivan stated that his aim was to emphasize the meaninglessness of current conflicts such as the Iran-Israel war and to call for peace.
Pehlivan stated that the names in the cartoon (Muhammad and Musa) are common names among the people and that he would have used religious titles such as “Hz.” if religious figures were meant. Pointing out that the cartoon was drawn in today’s clothes and place, the illustrator emphasized that his message was only peace and the meaninglessness of war.
Pehlivan, who said that he has been loyal to the rule of not mocking religion for years, rejected the accusations and said, “I am the victim in this process, but also the society.”
