Bursa Bar Association has stated that the Constitutional Court decree on the reversal of 1-year 3-month imprisonment sentence issued against Ayşe Çelik is a precedent and must be applied for those on trial with the same charges. “The freedom of expression and thought is guaranteed by our Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights. The right to freedom of expression is inalienable in pluralist democracies. With precedents of the ECHR and the Constitutional Court on freedom of expression, as well as the latest precedent on Ayşe Çelik, we invite all judicial bodies to protect the democratic rights to use their freedom of expression during prosecution of citizens,” the Bar Association stated.
