An indictment was prepared against Hüseyin Baş, Chairman of the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), demanding imprisonment from 1 year and 5 months to 8 years and 2 months due to his remarks against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the grounds that Hüseyin Baş’s statements in his speech at the 9th Ordinary Provincial Congress of his party in Trabzon on December 20, 2024 constituted the crime of “insulting the President”.
The indictment stated that Baş’s words exceeded the limits of freedom of expression and criticism and damaged the honor, dignity and prestige of the President. Baş was charged with the crime of “publicly insulting the President” in a chain.
