Artist Pınar Aydınlar, who was arrested through the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) investigation, was released at the first hearing.
Aydınlar was on trial at Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court on charges of “illegal organization membership” and “making propaganda for an illegal organization”. In her defense, Aydınlar stated that she was not active under the umbrella of HDK and reminded that she was a candidate for Istanbul Mayor on behalf of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the past. Referring to the practices he was subjected to during his detention, Aydınlar emphasized that his social media posts should be evaluated within the scope of freedom of expression.
The prosecutor’s office demanded his release and the court ruled for his release on judicial control conditions. Aydınlar was released after three months in detention. The trial was adjourned until September 11, 2025.
