Republic newspaper columnist Barış Terkoğlu was detained in Istanbul on December 25 for a publication he made regarding a prosecutor. Teams from the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command detained Terkoğlu at the Onlar TV building and took him to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into Terkoğlu on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information.” Terkoğlu was released on condition of judicial control, including a ban on leaving the country, after giving his statement to the prosecutor’s office.
