The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against arrested peace activist and conscientious objector Yannis Vasylis Yaylalı, rights advocate Meral Geylani and Veli Encu, who lost his relatives in the Roboski massacre, was held at Şırnak 2nd Assize Court. Yaylalı was released after 15 months under arrest and the next hearing was scheduled to 3 December 2018. The three names are charged with ‘public incitement to resentment and hostility,’ ‘creating fear and panic among people,’ ‘praising the crime and criminal’ as well as ‘publicly denigrating religious values adopted by a part of society’ due to their social media posts. Yaylalı and Geylani had moved to Roboski for solidarity with the families of 34 citizens killed in the aircraft bombardment at the village.
