The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Ruken Demir, who is in prison since November 2019, was held due to “illegal organisation membership.” Izmir 19th Assize Court issued the release of the journalist. The next hearing of the case was scheduled for April 28. In the indictment, the journalist is claimed to have “attempted to create a perception that Turkey is not a state of law” through the news he reported. Thus, the Prosecutor has added a new crime in the criminal law: “damaging the country’s reputation (!)…”
