A woman named Ş.H. was arrested in Diyarbakır due to the word “heval” [“Friend” in Kurdish] she wrote to her journal as part of the lyrics of the song “Ape Musa” by Grup Munzur. The reason for her arrest was shown as “encoded writing.”
Lawyer Özüm Vurgu indicated that her client was arrested with the allegation of “illegal organization membership.” Vurgu further stated that they tried to explain to the judge that the song was written for Kurdish intellectual and journalist-writer Musa Anter, who lost his life due to an unsolved murder on September 20, 1992; whereas the judge evaluated the lyrics as “illegal organization document.”
