The appeal against the 6-year, 3-month prison sentence imposed on journalist Delal Akyüz on charges of “membership in an organization” was rejected. The 2nd Criminal Chamber of the Izmir Regional Court of Appeals, reviewing the decision of the Izmir 13th Heavy Penal Court, stated that there was no violation of the law in the decision. The Court of Appeal unanimously rejected the appeal on its merits, arguing that the evidence had been properly evaluated and the sentence had been imposed in accordance with the law. It was reported that Akyüz’s lawyers would appeal to the Supreme Court.
