The verdict was announced in the trial of Ferah Gümüş and Güven Göknar, who fought against the logging of Akbelen Forest in the Milas district of Muğla. The Milas 6th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced the defendants to five months in prison for “resisting to prevent the performance of duty.” They were acquitted of the charge of “insult.” The sentencing of Ferah Gümüş was postponed, while Güven Göknar’s sentence was issued with the right to appeal. Lawyer Ramazan Akkaya stated that the decision is not final and that the case will be transferred to the regional court of appeals.
