The appeal against the detention of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 104 others, who were arrested as part of an investigation by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was rejected by the higher court. After accepting the indictment, the Istanbul 40th Heavy Penal Court had ruled to continue the defendants’ detention. The lawyers’ appeal against this decision was reviewed and rejected by the Istanbul 41st High Criminal Court. The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office sought prison sentences ranging from 828 to 2,352 years for Ekrem İmamoğlu on 142 separate charges, alleging he was the “founder and leader of an organization.”
