Ankara Bar Association’s Report on March 19 Protests: “The Judiciary Should Prosecute Those Who Targeted the Protesters, Not the Protesters”

Ankara Bar Association’s Center for Social Litigation and Legal Research (TODAM) released its rights violations report on the March 19 protests in Ankara following the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The report found violations of the prohibition of ill-treatment, freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly, the right to defense and the right to organize trade unions.
It was stated that law enforcement officers used equipment that did not allow identification, did not provide safe exit lines, prevented students from entering the campus, and violated access to lawyers and legal guarantees during detention processes.
The report particularly emphasized that “the judiciary should take action not against those who exercise their right to protest, but against those who target them.”
