A ruling has been issued in the case filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel following a complaint by Istanbul Chief Prosecutor Akın Gürlek over remarks made at the Gaziosmanpaşa rally. The Istanbul 20th Civil Court of First Instance ruled that Özel’s statements constituted an “attack on personal rights” and ordered him to pay 150,000 TL in moral damages. The ruling stated that the severity of the remarks, the social and financial circumstances of the parties, and the purchasing power of the currency were taken into consideration. At the rally, Özgür Özel had said, “Akın, you’ve hit a hard rock… Don’t make me lose my temper; we’ll gather to prevent this from falling apart.”
