A confidentiality order has been issued in the investigation into the death of 15-year-old child laborer Muhammed Kendirci, who died as a result of torture involving an air compressor. The initial release and subsequent re-arrest of the perpetrator, apprentice Habip Aksoy, sparked widespread public outrage. The Şanlıurfa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s statement that it was “intended as a joke” was also criticized. Bar Association President Abdullah Öncel said that more than one person may have been involved in the torture. Due to the confidentiality order, lawyers’ requests for access to the file were denied.
