A lawsuit has been filed against JINNEWS News Director Öznur Değer and journalist Osman Akın for “targeting” them, after they reported on a criminal complaint filed against Kamil Aksoy, Commander of the Kızıltepe Gendarmerie Commando Battalion, who is accused of torture during a house raid in the Nusaybin district of Mardin. The indictment prepared by the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was accepted by the Mardin 2nd Heavy Penal Court on the grounds that the news report did not fall within the scope of press freedom. The first hearing of the case is expected to take place in the coming days.
