N.K., a high school student who was arrested at age 17 in Patnos, Ağrı, and acquitted after spending 73 days in prison, could not graduate from high school because his detention period was recorded as absenteeism. N.K., a 12th-grade student at Patnos Anatolian High School, was detained on 4 October 2025 following a tip-off and was arrested and sent to a prison housing adults. He was acquitted in the case after his release. N.K. gained admission to Van Yüzüncü Yıl University through supplementary placement in the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Examination but learned during registration that he had not graduated from high school. Fifty-five of the 73 days he spent in prison were entered into the e-School system as absences and he was required to repeat the grade. DEM Party MPs Newroz Uysal Aslan, Beritan Güneş Altın, Yılmaz Hun, Kezban Konukçu, Serhat Eren, Heval Bozdağ and Onur Düşünmez brought the issue before the Parliamentary Human Rights Inquiry Committee. The MPs said N.K. had successfully completed all courses and responsibility exams and that his graduation had been blocked solely because of his detention. They requested an investigation into whether the school had informed the family in time about the absences, an examination of the e-School records, and necessary action by the Ministry of National Education and the Council of Higher Education so that the student would not lose his right to university enrollment.
