The Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) published its September 2026 Report on Rights Violations Against Journalists. According to the report, access was blocked in September to 3,492 social media items and 15 news reports, while four websites were shut down. Accounts and websites belonging to outlets including JINNEWS, Mezopotamya Ajansı, Evrensel, Kısa Dalga and T24 were subjected to access blocks. Hundreds of X accounts were blocked particularly between 24 and 30 September. DFG said the blocks also covered posts concerning the fund crisis, the murder of Narin Güran, the school attack in Manisa, LGBTI+ rights and political developments. According to the report, 15 journalists were detained in September, eight were arrested, four journalists’ homes were raided, three journalists were threatened, two were subjected to ill-treatment and news coverage was obstructed in five incidents. Investigations were launched into two journalists and cases were filed against 10. Trials of 80 journalists continued in 25 ongoing cases. Two journalists received prison sentences totaling six years, five months and 24 days, 10 journalists were dismissed from their jobs and RTÜK imposed sanctions on 14 broadcasts. The association emphasized that access blocks violated press freedom and the public’s right to information.
