Police detained 13 people, including Acting Mayor Murat Güneş, in a second operation against Ataşehir Municipality. The operation took place immediately after six municipal council members elected on the CHP list joined the AKP. After Ataşehir Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel was arrested, CHP member Murat Güneş was elected acting mayor with 22 votes in the election held on 30 April 2026. After six council members joined the AKP, Güneş said they were monitoring interventions in voters’ will and remained in office with 18 council members. Güneş and 12 others were detained in the operation.
