Journalist Can Dündar’s YouTube channel was blocked by the Istanbul 6th Criminal Judge of Peace on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order”.
The blocking came after Dündar’s video against the CHP titled “There is only one way left: The Street” against the CHP. In the video, Dündar evaluated the appointment of trustees to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency and emphasized that the party should fight on the streets.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation on the grounds that the video “threatens national security”. The decision was based on Article 8/A of the Internet Law.
According to EngelliWeb data, digital censorship practices in Turkey have intensified in recent years. Turkey ranks 159th out of 180 countries in Reporters Without Borders’ 2025 Press Freedom Index.
