Academic Aslı Aydemir, who was arrested for protesting the attack on the Istanbul Beyoğlu office of the satirical magazine LeMan on June 30, 2025, had her appeal against her detention rejected by the Istanbul 40th Heavy Penal Court on January 9. The court found Aydemir’s detention, based on the allegation of “resisting to prevent the performance of duty,” to be in accordance with procedure and the law, citing the current state of evidence and the existence of grounds for detention. Aydemir, who has been in prison for approximately 190 days, is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on February 12.
