A lawsuit has been filed against Can Uğur, News Director of Cumhuriyet newspaper, over a news article titled “LGS questions shared on WhatsApp group before exam ended,” published on June 17, 2025. The first hearing in the lawsuit, filed following a complaint by the Ministry of National Education, will be held on January 13, 2026, at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. The prosecution assessed Uğur’s news report as “spreading misleading information publicly” under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code, on the grounds of “creating public concern with information contrary to the truth.” Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin also confirmed the allegations in the news report, arguing that the questions had been “shared early through unofficial channels” but did not affect the integrity of the exam.
