While the independence of the judiciary is regressing in Turkey, the AKP government is investing in new courthouses instead of establishing justice. A total of 700 million TL was spent on courthouses between January-August 2025. The highest expenditure was made for the courthouse to be built in Hakkari, with the cost reaching approximately 500 million TL. 176 million TL was spent for Bolu Gerede and millions of TL for projects in Aydın and Hendek. A tender worth 6.7 million TL was made for new courtrooms at the Istanbul Anatolian Palace of Justice. According to international reports, Turkey has fallen to 117th place among 142 countries in the rule of law index.
