Of the 94 people detained in raids on the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), 55 were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest without their statements being taken by the prosecutor’s office. It was reported that the remaining detainees would have their police statements taken on the same day. Responding to a call from the ESP, numerous political parties, democratic mass organizations, and union representatives gathered in front of the Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse. A statement issued described the operation as amounting to “political genocide.” It was reported that those detained included ESP Co-Chair Murat Çepni, former co-chairs, members of the Central Executive Committee, SKM Spokesperson Tanya Kara, SGDF Co-Chair Berfin Polat, Limter-İş President İleri Devrim Yurtsever, and ETHA workers.
