The Ministry of National Defense has appealed a court ruling overturning the dismissal of Lieutenant Deniz Demirtaş from the Turkish Armed Forces for chanting the slogan “We are Mustafa Kemal’s soldiers” at a graduation ceremony. The Ministry has referred the case to the court of appeals, requesting that the dismissal be reinstated. Demirtaş was sentenced to “Dismissal from the Armed Forces” by the TSK High Disciplinary Board on the grounds of insubordination and actions incompatible with the dignity and honor of the military profession. As a result of the lawsuit, the court found the expulsion decision unlawful and overturned it. It was noted that the case also served as a precedent for other lieutenants who had been expelled on the same grounds.
