Between July and September 2025, media freedom in Turkey was once again under the grip of judiciary, censorship and violence. 150 journalists appeared before the court. Journalists were detained, arrested, television channels blacked out and news websites blocked. 32 years later, as Mehmet Ağar took the witness stand in the Uğur Mumcu trial, the courts once again reminded journalists of “the price of freedom of expression.”
