Birsen Kars, who survived the ‘Back to Life Operation’ organized against prisons on December 19, 2000 with injuries and was remembered with her words, “We were six people, they burned us alive”, passed away in Germany, where she was treated for cancer. The police took Kars’ body after it was brought to Istanbul, to the Forensic Medicine Institute, which caused reactions. While Kars’ body was taken to the Gazi Cemevi after the autopsy, the police detained 16 people on charges of “praising the crime and the criminal”, “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” and “resisting a public officer”.
