The Istanbul 13th Heavy Penal Court sentenced 12 individuals on trial in a case that began in 2012 to a total of 159 years in prison; one person present at the hearing was arrested, and arrest warrants were issued for 11 others to be taken into custody for execution of the sentence. Defense attorneys argued that the case file was prepared by “FETÖ”-linked judiciary/police, that the evidence was unlawful, and that the verdict showed “resistance” contrary to the spirit of the peace process.
