Ağrı Heavy Penal Court No 1 sentenced 10 people, including DEM Party Ağrı Municipality Assembly member Şakir Kılıç, to 177 years and 7 months in total. Within the scope of the investigation launched in 2015, charges of “membership in an illegal organization”, “aiding an illegal organization”, “making propaganda for an illegal organization” and “violence and coercion” were brought against them. According to the verdict, Şakir Kılıç was sentenced to 44 years, Engin Dursun 24 years, Figen Aslan and Ramazan Bayram 18 years, Mehmet İzci 11 years and 9 months, Yılmaz Dursun 8 years and 9 months, Şakir Çaçan 7 years and 6 months, Murat Karagül and Serkan Yazıcı 6 years and 3 months. While some defendants were arrested after the hearing, the crowd gathered in front of the courthouse chanted slogans such as “Pressures cannot deter us” and “We will win if we resist”. On the same day, Rıdvan Kahraman was sentenced to 24 years and 10 months in prison for “illegal organization membership” and “simple wounding”.
