Specialized sergeant Alper Kaan Polatkan, who hit 5-year-old Erdem Aşkan with his vehicle in Yüksekova district of Hakkari and caused his death, was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for “negligent homicide”. The incident occurred on June 8, 2023 when Polatkan was driving his private vehicle towards Van. While it took 8 months for the case to be filed, the sentence was criticized as “like a reward”.
