A lawsuit was filed against Cumhuriyet Daily writer Zafer Arapkirli due to “insult” after reacting against theologian Nurettin Yıldız on social media. Yıldız had previously stated, “A six-year-old can marry.” The journalist is charged due to his statements, “How can you look at the faces of your wife and daughter when you go home? Are you really defending this? Let him sign under those statements and publish them here – if they’re not ashamed! How dare you defend dishonour, immorality. Will no one stop these despicable dirtbags?” The prosecution of the journalist started at Istanbul 32nd Criminal Court of First Instance. The second hearing was scheduled for December.
