ETHA reporter Züleyha Müldür was sentenced to six years and three months in prison in a case in which she was tried on a charge of “membership in an armed terrorist organization.” At the hearing before Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court, Müldür denied the accusations and requested acquittal. The prosecution cited her attendance at court hearings, a newspaper event and distribution activity, a Suruç commemoration and a protest against the appointment of a trustee as grounds for the charges. Müldür’s lawyer argued that the acts in the case fell within the scope of democratic rights and journalistic activity.
