The Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) released its report on human rights violations against women journalists in January 2026. According to the report, five journalists were detained, 58 digital media accounts were closed, and access to three websites was blocked in January. MKG stated that journalists faced violations such as detention, ill-treatment, threats, and obstruction of news coverage. The report recalled that 5 journalists covering protests against attacks on Rojava in Nusaybin were detained. MKG emphasized that digital censorship particularly targets women-focused and critical media outlets, calling for the guarantee of press and freedom of expression in line with universal legal principles.
