The Istanbul 26th Heavy Penal Court unanimously acquitted all defendants on January 9 in the case against Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu and members of the board of directors, who were charged with “making terrorist propaganda” and “publicly disseminating misleading information.” The court ruled that the elements of the crime were not present. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office appealed the acquittal following the decision. Kaboğlu said the prosecutor’s appeal showed intolerance for a lawful court decision and was indicative of a particular attitude towards the Istanbul Bar Association.
