A lawsuit was filed against Nuri Başkapan, an employee of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, based on his criminal complaint against Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. In his petition dated April 28, 2025, Başkapan requested the prosecution of Gürlek and several members of the judiciary. The prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into Başkapan due to the statements in the petition and drafted an indictment charging him with “publicly insulting a public official in connection with his duties” and “targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism.” The Istanbul 26th Heavy Penal Court, which accepted the indictment, decided to hold the first hearing on April 7.
