The lawsuit of ‘insult’ filed by Van Governor Murat Zorluoğlu against journalist Oktay Candemir due to the expression, “almond-shaped mustache,” was concluded. Van 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance issued Candemir’s acquittal, indicating that the expression did not exceed the limits of criticism.
Zorluoğlu had made a criminal complaint against Candemir due to his article published on vanhaberdar.com on 22 December 2017 with the title, “Besides the almond-shaped mustache… What is the Van Governor telling us.” The court stated, in the issued decree, that “Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights not only provides and guarantees the content of the opinion or information, but also the method of transfer of them.”
